There’s a bit of an echo in my life of late. At work, I am doing some system upgrades. In my personal projects, I am moving my projects off of github. In the world of physical things, I am moving house.
In each case there is pattern of a task. Pick up something. See if it works. Dust it off. Straighten it out. Prove it works. Put it back in its place. Over and over.
Because the things that you use, that you rely on, that you care for, accumulate rust over time. They decay. Physical friction and dependency hell both render them inoperable.
Luckily I find it deeply satsifying to get everything running smooth. To hear that satisfying click or see a neat “47/47 tests passed” at the bottom of your build log. Cleanliness is next to godliness, and I never run out of things to clean.
