LSU chickened out, the SEC decided to be magnanimous, and the hubbub of lawyers gives way to discussion of things that at least mostly happen on the football field.
Iowa State @ #21 Iowa - 6:30 CT - The CyHawk is required CFB watching. The series is always close, and has a frequent habit of descending into a clumsy rock fight. This year Iowa’s offense seems to be right back in Kirk Ferentz comfort zone, running farmboys up the middle. Meanwhile ISU finally lost Matt Campbell to a bigger program and have struggled to remain competitive with a small budget in the NIL era. In any other game I’d say the Cyclones are in for some long dark years, but El Assico defies all logic. I fully expect this game to either be over halfway through the second quarter or decided by a field goal.
#23 Mizzou @ Kansas - Friday 6:30 CT - After a promising couple of years the shine has come off of Lance Leipold’s rising star. Kansas has now missed bowls twice in a row and without some real success this year they might be in the market for a new head coach. Mizzou on the other hand is on the upswing with Drinkwitz, and yet they haven’t quite managed to find the promised land. The Border War is only recently reinstated but as far as rivalries go it’s a bitter one. They both have the chance to ruin each other’s season before it’s even begun.
